According to the Mail on Sunday, UK high street health shop, Holland and Barrett has been selling CBD (Cannabidiol) oil that contains illegal amounts of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol).
What is THC?
Like CBD, THC is a cannabinoid, found in some Cannabis plants. Unlike CBD, THC is illegal in the UK, except for trace amounts. You can read more about CBD and THC law in the UK here. THC is a psychoactive substance and the reason for the 'stoned' feeling that Marijuana gives you.
The Mail Online reports that under the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001, the legal limit of THC in any one product is 1mg.
The newspaper claims to have seen results from lab tests on a bottle of Jacob Hooy CBD, bought from a branch of Holland & Barrett, that showed levels of 12.4mg of THC – more than 12 times the legal limit.
